뉴욕의 대표 현대미술 작가이다. 1950년대 추상적 표현주의의 미적 스타일에 영감받아 그만의 형식주의와 표현을 나타내는 결과물이 되었다. 카츠의 밝은 색감의 구상과 풍경 그림은 평면적으로 그림으로 현재 광고와 영화에 나타나는 격식과 컨셉추얼한 팝아트의 비주얼 문화를 표현했다. 카츠의 대표적인 그림으로는 그의 아내이자 뮤즈인 Ada(에이다) 그림이다.

Alex Katz developed his highly stylized aesthetic in reaction to 1950s Abstract Expressionism through his own distinctive resolution between formalism and representation. His brightly colored figurative and landscape paintings are rendered in s flat style that takes cues from everyday visual culture like ads and cinema. Katz is well know for his many portraits of his wife and muse, Ada.
